We’re your brothers

Say what: Dust-flake?! – what’s up with that conspicuously suspicious company name, you ask? Well, we don’t mind sounding a bit goofy since we don’t feel like a “real”, serious company – we are just two brothers who have decided to quit their senior jobs in the AAA games industry in order to play together once again, like we used to do as children – to play again like tiny flakes of dust glowing in the shaft of magical light of our shared childhood memories.

Since those days, we have always been building stuff together and none of  the “personal and artistic differences” (which we sure had!) managed to kill our relationship – in fact, they only made it stronger. Our desire to make games together first formed some 20+ years ago, when we were first enjoying classic 8-bit games on our Atari 800 XL. The pure excitement and fun of those simple but earnest and extremely well crafted gems like Zybex, Draconus or Boulder Dash remains our primary inspiration source to this day.

Before we decided to go solo, we have made and shipped some great and very successful PC/console games together in the last decade, more recently Crysis and Crysis 2. Working in senior positions on large-scale projects with many extremely talented people  gave us the experience and skills needed for making the highest quality mobile apps.

We want to make apps in an earnest way – apps that we ourselves and our families would enjoy using. Which makes us hope you will enjoy them, too – since we don’t feel so special, after all. Also, we want to make them really, really well. And beautiful – that also “really, really”. That’s because we want to give you real delight.

Because we are brothers, we can’t really trick or manipulate each other. Having that attitude between ourselves, we also extend it to our users. We have made a firm decision to stay away from all questionable or even manipulative practices that have become quite common lately, especially in social gaming. We are completely committed to making non-toxic, fair, safe entertainment. Our first project, Inner Garden, proves the point sufficiently: the main goal throughout the whole two-year production period was “peace of mind”, not the number of in-app purchases per minute. We understand fully that this decision diminishes our chances of financial success, but at the end of the day, we value integrity over money so we accept that risk.

Pavel Mores (40, here showing you to his first born son Metoděj) is the bossy big brother and the programmer.  Before Dustflake, he was a Senior Artificial Intelligence Programmer at the R&D dept. at Crytek Frankfurt and even before that, he had worked as a graphics programmer at a hospital, and a network programmer.  When not coding or hanging out with his family, Pavel likes to play classical piano, guitar and read books on evolution, astronomy, mathematics and science in general. He also draws competently which makes him an unrelenting critic of his poor brother’s work.

Petr Mores (39) is the irresponsible little brother, and also the artist/animator. After obtaining an M.A. in Philosophy and literature, he decided he’d rather do something more tangible and for the past 11 years, he had worked as a 3D animator for various games companies, lastly as a Principal Animator at Crytek Frankfurt. Throughout the years, Petr discovered that his two favorite pastimes – hiking and painting – can actually be combined into one which is second to none for him – outdoor painting. He is always making color sketches of just about everything around him on his Nintendo DS, but trees, flowers and skies are his favorites.  Petr also plays the guitar, though no piano. He co-composed and co-produced acclaimed soundtracks for the Vietcong game series, published worldwide by Take-Two Interactive.

We’re Dustflake, and we’re your brothers!

Thank you, Tonya! Inner Garden really grows from who we are and from our lifelong relationship, which hopefully makes it somewhat different from corporate-manufactured entertainment.

Awesome program! You guys are really talented – thank you so much for sharing your gifts.

Have you considered any other expansion packs? I would love it if you’d take me back to Hawaii, for example…

Thank you Liz – especially for your suggestion. We are planning a tropical garden pack which might include Hawaii scenery – if there are any specific/typical things (plants, buildings) you’d like to see, just send us a link to a picture! We are happy to design the packs in harmony with what our users want. Of course there will be many other packs, such as Japanese garden, Autumn, Winter Garden, Water Garden etc. In time, we want Inner Garden to be the ultimate dream building toy!

Hi Sheila. This is actually a glitch – all packs should be available for Kindle Fire. We are working it out with Amazon now!

Thanks, I will keep checking. How about a vegetable pack?

We definitely need more vegetables. If only because we have none so far. :) The technology we use does not support tiny things well, but we HAVE to do tomatoes, pumpkins and vineyards at some point!! :)

Sorry for replying late, Sheila, the sea of spam is to blame. We promised four new animal collectible cards which were indeed included in the pack. If you did not see them, the problem might be that your base app (Inner Garden free) was not up to date. Try to update it to see the new cards. Cheers, Petr

    Dear sirs,
Thank you so much for the free version of your game!
When my eldest daughter gave me a smart phone, the big joke of the day was, that ‘momma finally has something in the house smarted than her!’ Lol!
But momma’s has slowed down a lot in the last few years, gotten a little older, and became disabled. The thing I miss the most since then, is my garden.
I still garden a bit in the window, but not like even just 5 yrs ago. But then I found inner garden, and I’ve been able to garden again!
Oh, its not the same as cleaning the dirt from under my nails, or the uneven sunburns, but its still pretty freakin cool!
I really can’t afford many expantion pks, and such, but if you eve need a tester for any beta androud programs, (all I have is a phone, no pc), please keep my info handy, I have

Thank you very much! We are glad to hear that Inner Garden helps you to keep the gardening spirit. :) We might need some beta testing at some point though it is not quite as easy to arrange on Android as it is on iOS. If we do, we will definitely contact you. If you use Facebook, please feel free to like and participate on our FB page: https://www.facebook.com/InnerGardenApp. You can post your gardens there, make suggestions for additions and improvements, get news of upcoming stuff and discounts. Best wishes! – Petr, IG artist.
